I’m with the girls who have their shirts raised
Tucked in on pants that don’t fit
The ones with the makeup and the braids
And the ones with the afro, curly hair
Straight hairs and skin cuts
The ones with siblings to raise
And parents who can’t be faulted
I’m with the girls hanging with the other girls
Talking tough love and all the boys who walked away
I’m with the girls hanging with the boys
The girls who don’t fit in a circle of other girls
And the girls with comic friends pressed into corners of their rooms
I’m with the everyday girls
Shirt and Jeans kind of girls
Dresses and skirts kind of girls
Hair tie and veil kind of girls
Boxers and panties kind of girls
Just the everyday girls
No makeup girls with half a sunlight smile
The girls with the sneakers and the
Girls with the heels
The sazzy little queens whose heads
Aren’t bowed
I’m with the girls loving and breathing
The girls healing and living
The girls working hard to pay bills
With all of the creators gift
The hotheads and the Maya Angelou’s
Just the everyday kind of girls
Staring into the mirror each morning to
Get going for the day.
